Why Would My Generation be Interested in Politics

One might ask what would attract a teenager to politics and to the Republican Party.

Well one reason is that my generation is concerned about our futures. We see a lot of good things that have happened in politics and that have come from our government, but we also see a lot of mistakes - mistakes that will later cost us once we are adults and of voting age.

Once we enter the workforce, it will be from our salaries that we will have to pay down the rising deficit. We also question if what we have paid into social security will be there for us when we retire. We look at the future of student loans and wonder how on earth are we going to be able to afford to get a college education, without going into debt, which we won't be able to pay! These are some of these reasons are why my generation has an interest in politics, even before we can actually vote.

Then there is the question of why are we Republicans? It is mainly because we see it as an opportunity to resurrect the Party of Lincoln as one which believes in freedom and opportunity for all people. We think in terms of freedom as the right to build wealth and to enjoy that wealth, while also helping others who are less fortunate. We also believe that less government, means more individual freedom.

We still have a lot to learn about both politics and the Republican Party. But we are happy to have this opportunity as a part of the NRAAC Youth on the Horizons to begin to understand how government works and how we can have a part in it.
